Tour highlights haunts in Old Town Spring

Chris and Ginger Pennell believe that everyone has a ghost story to tell - and each tale can spark an exciting adventure. Every weekend, the Pennells host ghost hunting tours and ghost dinners. Each event begins with a lesson on how to use ghost-hunting equipment - from night vision cameras and tape recorders to dousing rods and electro-magnetic field meters. The Pennells share photos, videos and recordings of ghost voices from previous investigations. [...] guests are encouraged to perform their own investigation - whether walking the streets of Old Town Spring or experimenting around the dinner table. A medium Kourtney Franks also accompanies the group to describe the ghosts that she encounters on any particular night. The Pennells set up equipment during the dinner so guests can monitor any activity from beyond - and learn how to do the same when they go home. "It's a great way for people to figure out how an investigation works," Ginger said. Soon they were spending all their spare time, researching - reading books about the paranormal, learning about local history and visiting with ghost hunting groups across the state. In 2000, the couple started their own group, the Spring Spirit Seekers, who would go to people's homes and investigate abnormal sounds or sights. The Pennells created a website, and people started showing up to group meetings. For the couple with a past career in the environmental industry, it seemed like a big jump.
